Collections

Family photographs, and the papers that came down with them, described the way an archive describes its holdings: what each object is, who is in it, and how we know. Most are in my keeping; the rest I have been allowed to copy.

The people

16 of 109

16 of the 109 people named in the collections, in order of birth. The line under each is a life, all on one scale from 1820 to 2030; the heavier part is the years in which they were photographed.

Each collection is a group of items that came to me together, so a collection is not the same thing as a family: one box can hold several families, and one family can turn up in several boxes. The people in them are gathered across every collection in the name authority file.

Allison Family Photographs

Photographs of the Allison family. Photographs date to Redmon and Betty Allison, but the bulk revolves around Harold and Jean Allison. The collection includes photographs of associated families, including the McKinstry, Ingle, and Swann families.

Photographs of the Ingle family. This is a smaller collection, because I do not have many photos of this side of the family. Some of these photographs have been obtained by relatives on the Ingle side.

Collections follow where the items came from, so families run across them. Figures are items; the surnames that turn up most come first.

Chronology

1859–2007

How many items were made in each year, as far as the dates allow. One dated only to a span of years is spread evenly across it, so a loosely dated print adds a little to many years rather than all of itself to one. Choose a decade to see what it holds.

Certain or probable datePossible date1 item undated, not counted

Every item here is published as IIIF, so its images open at full resolution in any IIIF viewer, such as Mirador or the Universal Viewer. Names follow the name authority file, and a date is given as a range wherever the evidence allows nothing closer.
